Safeguarding the Rule of Law: Symposium on the Occasion of the Thirty-Year Anniversary of the German-Japanese Association of Jurists (DJJV)
Synopsis
This volume presents the lectures and opening addresses given at the comparative law symposium titled “Die Sicherung des Rechtstaates” [Safeguarding the Rule of Law], which was hosted at the OAG House in Tokyo by the German-Japanese Association of Jurists (DJJV) on the occasion of its 30th anniversary on 2 November 2018. The symposium was organized in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB), to whom we would like to express our sincere thanks once again for their partnership and friendly cooperation in preparing the symposium’s content as well as its organization and financing.
The conference in Tokyo was preceded on 8 June 2018 by a ceremony held at the Hamburg Town Hall, at which Prof. Dr. Dres. h. c. Makoto Ida gave an address titled “Wozu Rechtsvergleichung heute?” [What is Served by Comparative Law Today?]. The DJJV had been founded 30 years earlier, on 7 June 1988, in Hamburg.
