Concept

Established in 1996, the Zeitschrift für Japanisches Recht / Journal of Japanese Law aims to be a truly international periodical for researchers and practitioners. Featuring comparative analysis on a full range of Japanese law topics, it adopts a variety of formats and methodological approaches and maximizes accessibility to Japanese law through publication in western languages (German, English, and French).

The Schriftenreihe Sonderhefte der Zeitschrift für Japanisches Recht / Special Editions of the Journal of Japanese Law, first initiated in 2009, supplement the general structure and create a platform for monographs, edited volumes, and conference proceedings across a wide array of topics associated with Japanese law.

Institutional Publishers and Editorial Staff

The Special Editions are a joint publication of the , and the German-Japanese Association of Jurists (DJJV). The MPI is a research institute whose focus is on comparative law. The DJJV is a non-profit association having approximately 600 members (mostly legal professionals and academics) located in Germany and abroad. An editorial collaboration exists also with the Australian Network for Japanese Law (ANJeL). The editorial staff is formed by Dr. Ruth Effinowicz (MPI, Hamburg), Prof. Dr. Harald Baum (MPI, Hamburg), Prof. Dr. Moritz Bälz (Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt/Main), Prof. Dr. Marc Dernauer (Chuo University, Tokyo), and Prof. Dr. Gabriele Koziol (Kyoto University).

Print Editions

The Special Editions are published by the Carl Heymanns Verlag – a brand of Wolters Kluwer Deutschland GmbH.

Access to Online Issues

The Journal aims to make all Special Editions available online. Through the agreement of the publishers and authors, this regularly occurs under a “CC BY 4.0” license.
